More than ten major political parties are expected to be a part of the newly formed Azimio la Umoja Movement (AUM), a new political movement bringing together partners and political players supporting ODM leader Raila Odinga’s presidential bid.

Already, a number of party leaders, including President Uhuru Kenyatta (Jubilee), CS Peter Munya (PNU), CS Ukur Yatani (Upya Movement), Gideon Moi, ( KANU), Governors John Lonyangapuo (KUP), Kiraitu Murungi (DEP), Charity Ngilu (Narc), Alfred Mutua (MCC) and Amason Kingi (PAA) have thrown their weight behind the Azimio la Umoja Movement and are expected to officially join it in coming days.

Others who have also shown their willingness to work with the former prime minister are Justin Muturi (DP), William Kabogo (Tujibebe Party), Wafula Wamunyinyi (DAP-Kenya), Kivutha Kibwana (Muungano Party) and Jimmy Kibaki ( TND). Mr. Odinga is the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader and will be flying its ticket.

The Azimio la Umoja Movement is of like-minded parties who support Odinga’s presidential ambition to form government next year when President Uhuru retires.

”I Raila Amolo Odinga having been faithful and committed having worked as a patriotic Kenyan accept to present myself as a presidential candidate in the August 8th, 2022 election,” Mr. Odinga told delegates at last Friday’s Azimio la Umoja convention held at Kasarani Sports Complex in Nairobi.

According to sources familiar with the ongoing negotiations, the new movement is expected to be formally launched in February when Kenyans will get a chance to see the many political parties backing Odinga’s bid.
