Azimio leader Raila Odinga hinted at the possibility of collaborating with Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua despite their differing political trajectories.

Odinga, speaking last Friday during the presentation of the Limuru 3 resolutions at Chungwa House, clarified that his close ties with the Deputy President were primarily driven by his aspirations for the African Union Commission Chairperson position.

“Gachagua is a member of this government, and as you know, the government pledged to support my bid for the AU, and I thank them,” stated Odinga as he explained the basis of their collaboration.

“He has seen the light and he is a Saul who has now become a Paul,” Odinga added, referring to the Deputy President’s transformation.

The two leaders also found common ground in advocating for the One Man, One Vote, One Shilling approach. Odinga endorsed the initiative and called for constitutional amendments to ensure fair distribution of funds, advocating for equity rather than equality.

This announcement follows the government’s expressed commitment to supporting the ODM party leader’s quest for the AU Commission job.

Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, in a joint press conference with Raila on June 5, commended the opposition leader’s political experience and leadership as he affirmed the government’s backing.

“We have a visionary leader to fire up the African Union to greater levels,” stated Mudavadi in support of Odinga’s aspirations. “We have no doubt the candidate will pursue excellence in line with the continent’s aspiration of the Africa we want.”

This revelation underscores Odinga’s strategic alliances and his readiness to navigate varying political landscapes to achieve his ambitions.
