Chebukati needs to leave IEBC and join UDA, Nyeri Town MP - hivipundetv.com

Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu has asked the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairperson Wafula Chebukati to vacate office and join the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), over what the legislator says was open an open bias towards William Ruto.

”Cabinet Secretaries, by the very nature of their work, must be partisan, if they are implementing the policies of a partisan-led government. Chebukati is the one who cannot be partisan. But in Kiambaa, and now in his recent communication that he then shared with the international community, it’s clear he’s not. He needs to leave IEBC and join UDA as the Chairman of their Elections Board,” the Nyeri Town MP wrote on Facebook.

Speaking in Nyeri town yesterday when he hosted Murang’a Woman Representative Sabina Chege, and her delegation, Wambugu noted that despite Cabinet Secretaries Fred Matiangi (Interior) and Joe Mucheru (ICT) holding their appointed positions, they too have political opinions, and they were not directly involved in the election like Wafula Chebukati was.

”He (Chebukati) has taken a position by taking sides between CSs and the DP, therefore, we should consider finding someone else to chair the IEBC who is not as obvious as he is. He needs to just go home and we find a suitable replacement for the IEBC chair. We have over 45 million Kenyans. I am sure we can find someone else,” Wambugu said.

On Monday, Wafula Chebukati in response to the United Democratic Alliance said state officers should stay away from activities that may compromise the political neutrality of the office they hold.

“There is need for all state officers and public officers to uphold political neutrality,” Chebukati said in the November 5 letter to UDA which sought his clarification on the subject.
