Police arrested and detained comedian Eric Omondi on Tuesday following a demonstration he led outside Parliament Buildings in Nairobi.
In a video circulating on the internet, Omondi is seen protesting outside parliament building with a few young people before police officers arrive to disrupt them.
Shortly, Eric is seen being roughed up by police officers into their vehicle while he fights back in resistance.
“Don’t arrest me! Don’t arrest me! We will not suffer in this country! Eric Omondi is heard telling the police who roughed him up into their vehicle.
His brother Fred Omondi confirmed the president of African comedy was finally contained and taken to the Central Police Station.
The Central Police Station OCS Johnson Lemuna also confirmed that the comedian was detained at the station.
“He has been arrested and is currently held at Central Police Station,” he stated.
Omondi was demonstrating to compel Members of the National Assembly to enact and pass a bill that will promote 75% of Kenyan content on all media platforms countrywide.
However, no Kenyan artist has come out to defend Eric Omondi except rapper KRG the Don who promised to see him released within two hours.
“Eric Omondi has been arrested in town while fighting for musicians, I have seen no musician standing with him… I am on my way going to town to secure Eric Omondi’s release within two hours,” KRG said.
Many Kenyan artists recently blasted Eric Omondi after he suggested Kenyan musicians were not good enough to compete on the international stage because they were more predictable, and needed to be unique and more creative.
