The Member of Parliament for Limuru Constituency in Kiambu County Hon. Peter Mwathi says it is time the Mount Kenya region repaid ODM leader Raila Odinga with the presidency for the sacrifices he has done in the past while trying to make Kenya a better republic.
Speaking in his constituency on Monday, Hon. Mwathi also the Chairperson of the Departmental Committee on Administration and National Security in parliament recounted how the March 2018 handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and the former prime minister brought stability and peace in the country after the disputed 2017 polls.
Apart from stabilising President Kenyatta’s regime, the MP told residents of the region it was Raila who supported the retired President Mwai Kibaki by declaring ‘Kibaki Tosha’ and further supporting him in 2008 to 2013 after they formed the grand coalition government.
“As Mt Kenya, we should repay Raila. In our culture, we start by repaying the older debt and the latest debt we sort it later. We will also repay his father even though he died.’
“I want to tell you that we have made our minds and have decided that we will support Raila. Those who are saying we are not honest, I want to tell them that we have spoken with the boss (President Uhuru Kenyatta) and he has told us that is where we are,” posed Mwathi.
His remarks come few days after Raila held a mega meeting in Nyeri where a section of Mt Kenya leaders endorsed him as their preferred presidential aspirant.
On Friday, the former prime minister is expected to give the country the way forward during his Azimio la Umoja national convention in Nairobi.
