Dagoreti North Member of Parliament and Kisii gubernatorial aspirant Simba Arati has suspended his campaigns until doctors come up with promising results of a poisoning attempt.
This follows an incident where his political ally, friend and Kitutu Chache MP Richard Onyonka survived an alleged poisoning at a political rally in Kisii County.
Onyonka is said to have started oozing blood from his mouth during a rally attended by Arati at Ibacho in Nyaribari Masaba Constituency.
The MP made several attempts to prevent the blood from coming out of his mouth before he started vomiting but the situation got out of hand.
Addressing the press, Arati stated that Onyonka had been handed a bottle of water by an unidentified person.
“When he took the water, he felt the taste was different and immediately spat it out. However, his body reacted immediately and he started vomiting with blood oozing from his mouth.
“The doctors are yet to determine what chemical substances Mr. Onyonka ingested from the bottle of water but have warned that the substance ingested would have been fatal if it found its way into the stomach lining of Mr. Onyonka,” Arati stated, adding that Onyonka is safe and recuperating well at his home.
He further revealed that the unidentified person is being sought by the authorities while calling on Kenyans who attended the event to disclose any information to the local police station.
His counterpart, Kisii County Assembly Deputy Speaker, Davins Onuso condemned the shambolic act stating that he was deeply concerned over the poisoning attempt.
This happens barely a month after Onyoka defected to Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) from Ford Kenya Party where he was the Deputy Party Leader.
He was welcomed by the party leader Raila Odinga.
“I was in ODM 20 years ago and yet I never understood your (Raila Odinga) plans for Kenya. This is the man I have been waiting to be president before I retire,” Onyonka said after he was received by Odinga.
