Munya emerging as favorite in race for Odinga’s Deputy - hivipundetv.com

Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya is emerging as a favorite in the list of leaders proposed to deputize ODM boss Raila Odinga for the top seat as the 2022 race begins to shape up.

According to a number of internal polls conducted within the past one month, the Agriculture CS seems to have out-lapped former presidential candidate Peter Kenneth as well as Narck Kenya leader Martha Karua (who insists she is will be going for the Kirinyaga gubernatorial seat next year) in the race to finding a suitable running mate for the Azimio presidential candidate.

A number of factors seem to favor CS Munya, among them being the fact that he is a native of Mt Kenya East, something that will hugely determine the direction Central Kenya and specifically the Eastern part take in the ballot.

Some sources say President Uhuru Kenyatta is determined to pass the Mt Kenya leadership mantle to Mt Kenya East, after their counterparts from West having been at the helm of the region’s political leadership since independence.

This is in line with his dream of leaving behind a united country and making other Kenyans also feel being part of the republic.

Reforms in the Agriculture sector the country has witnessed during CS Munya’s tenure is another feather in the cap of the former Meru county boss and those pushing for him to deputise Odinga say he is a performer and hard worker who will work perfectly with the former prime minister.

It is almost a given that Raila and Ruto would settle on their presidential running mate from Mt Kenya given the region’s numerical strength as well as for strategic interests.

Odinga currently enjoys the backing of influential Mt Kenya leaders and opinion shapers, among them the Mt Kenya Foundation. The powerful Mt Kenya Foundation elite business club endorsed Raila on the condition that he will address the region’s economic interests one he becomes president.
