Residents of Kanjama village in Mathioya Sub County demolished a government project in protest over health hazard it has caused them.
The Ksh.232 million irrigation project, according to the area residents has caused them malaria due to mosquitoes that have invaded area.
The Mukuru wa Nyagathanga Water Project has since remained a pool of stagnant water, exposing residents to various health risks.
“This project has caused a lot of suffering to us. Mosquitoes have become too common and denied us peace since we cannot sleep,” said one of the residents.
It has been established that the insects had invaded the area but the project made worsened the situation.
The County’s Health Executive Member Cecilia Kibe said there was a need to tackle the increase in infection cases in counties near the equator, some of which have been caused by climate change.
At the same time, a four-story building that was under construction collapsed at the Makeji area in Gatanga.
According to reports, over 10 people are feared trapped in the debris which is near Sunstar Hotel along old Muranga -Nairobi road.
Rescue Operations has been deployed to try to save the trapped person believed to be working when it collapsed.
