ODM targeting 15 female governors, 20 senators in 2022 - hivipundetv.com

The Orange Democratic Women League has a target of having 15 female party members elected as governors across the country in 2022. According to the league’s president Beth Syengo, the plan will also see the orange party line up 20 women and drum up support for their election to the Senate as lawmakers.

The Women League’s president also reveals apart from also lobbying 20MP slots specifically for ODM women, they are also pushing for direct tickets for five women in each of the 47 counties to contest for the position of the Member of the County Assembly (MCA).

”My vision is to have an increased number of women in elective and appointive positions. In 2013, ODM had only one female MP Millie Odhiambo and because of my efforts, the number went up to five in 2017,” she said last week while recalling spirited attempts by the ODM Party to always give women a space for their voice.

”We are going to the women at the grassroots to encourage them to vie. These are the women who are always forgotten but they have the potential of getting into leadership,” she added.

Currently, the only leading female leader in the outfit who has openly declared her intention to run as governor is Homabay Woman Rep Gladys Wanga. Janet Ongera, the Kisii Woman Rep has her eyes on the county’s senatorial seat.
