Shirleen Mukami, a 20-year-old young mother who took Twitter by storm recently after sharing her emotional story of raising her son a lone after facing rejection, has recorded statement to police over allegations of conning Kenyans Ksh800,000.

Shirleen, accompanied by her team, visited Kasarani Police Station to clear the air on the matter that has been trending for about two days now.

“I’m here with my team to clear the confusion. We are innocent and haters will not jeopardize our campaign,” Mukami stated.

Kenyans had earlier contributed about Ksh800,000 to Shirleen after listening to her emotional story that went viral on social media.

However, a section of Kenyans accused her of raising funds through false pretence after an expose by blogger Edgar Obare alleged that Kenneth Gachie, the alleged boyfriend, coached her on what to say to raise funds for a new car instead of helping single mothers as they earlier stated.

Shirleen has since dismissed the claims, saying the money contributed has not been withdrawn.

“And for the record, none of the funds have so far been WITHDRAWN. All the monies are still with MCHANGA and we shall be advised next on what to do with them. Nothing has so far been withdrawn,”Mukami wrote on twitter.

She also explained her relationship with Gachie, saying she approached him to help her popularize her initiative having successfully did a campaign for his sister last year to buy an electric wheelchair and make donations to spinal injury victims.

Shirleen added that her team mutually agreed to proceed with the initiative on their own and thanked Gachie fir airing their plight.

“Kenneth will make a statement of his own soon as he has told us.”

Shirleen stated.
