ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna has responded to the embarrassing ejection of Maragua Member of Parliament (MP) Mary Wamaua from the Kasarani Stadium on Friday.
In a viral video that surfaced online on Friday evening, the legislature complained over harassment by security guards at the venue.
Hours after the incident, Sifuna sympathized with the lawmaker, but went on to blame a miscommunication between her and the ODM party as the cause of the incident.
He argued that the MP who is allied to Deputy President William Ruto’s UDA party had not informed the event organizers of her intention to attend the Friday event.
“This regrettable incident could have been avoided if only she let us know in advance that she would be joining us. Pole sana Mhesh,” Sifuna wrote on his social media account.
Sifuna further stated that his ODM party has been welcoming defectors, and what happened should not be misunderstood because of her political affiliation.
“We have received dozens of defectors from UDA before, but with prior arrangement to ensure their intention is not misunderstood,” noted Sifuna.
Wamaua absconded Jubilee Party for UDA in October this year.
The Friday incident saw her reprimanding the security for shoving her after she allegedly attempted to access the area set aside for delegates during the Azimio la Umoja Convention where Raila Odinga declared his 2022 presidential candidature.
“Mkifika State House itakua namna gani?..Mimi mjumbe nimechaguliwa mnanisukuma kama gunia la viazi..Mtatupata Murang’a,”she said as she left the stadium angrily.
