The Late Agnes Tirop’s Husband Denies Killing The Athlete -

Ibrahim Rotich, the husband to the late Agnes Tirop, and the main suspect in the murder of the famous athlete, has been charged with the murder of the Olympian.

Rotich was arraigned at the Eldoret High Court on Tuesday, November 16,2021.

While appearing before Justice Reuben Nyakundi, Rotich pleaded not guilty to killing his wife Tirop.

“It’s not true your honor,” Rotich responded after the judge read the charge sheet to him.

Rotich was arrested by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) a day after Tirop’s body was found with multiple stab wounds in their Iten home on October 13, 2021.

The 25-year-old Tirop was a fast-rising athlete, a double world 10,000m bronze medallist and 2015 world cross-county champion who also finished fourth in the 5,000m at the Tokyo Olympics this year.

She managed to smash the women-only 10km world record at the Road to Records Event in Germany, with a time of 30:01, slicing 28 seconds off the previous record, a month before she met her untimely death.

The court will rule on Rotich’s bail application on December 1, 2021.
